My sister asked me to find out about laptops, since she is planing to buy one before she starts law school, her and her boyfriend were thinking about "ThinkPad T61 15.4" widescreen with integrated graphics and Mobile Broadband"
she told me it came out to 1600$

Don't worry about name brand to much and you can get a lot more for the same price.
The better brands might be a little more reliable but I'm not sure it is enough to charge hundreds more for the same thing.
Brands to look at:
Starting at lower cost moving up to higher cost but better companies.
Acer, HP, Gateway, Dell, IBM, Sony
There are smaller companies that make some really great and really crappy laptops but I would stick the the big boys.

The Qustion to your sister is what dos she plain on doing with it .ther are all typs out for gameing to jest flat out work types . the secound thing is most school do bouth mac & pc but it's best to find out 1st. if she going to game alienware makes nice systems but pricey .but if she only plains on watching DVD's and playing mp3 ect .you can get a nice ,Acer make some nice system at a ok price . i have own a dell and it was nice .but it's like buying a car you need test drive it .the dell i had was nice but the key boad was so blasted small. same goes for the moniter .i best pay a bit more to get a screen that easy to read but not so have you do want take it with you
