Windows 7 Soon

Well Windows 7 will be out on Oct 22 and I for one am really glad! I've been waiting to bypass Vista since it came out and it looks like I will finally be upgrading to a DX10 OS soon.

There are only 3 versions of Windows this time so that's good since Vista was a cluster F.
Home, Pro and Ultimate. Pro looks to be the one to get because it can run XP programs unless you really need BitLocker or to change language on the fly... which no one really does so ultimate is a wash.
Of course if you were running XP Pro and you wanted to do an inplace upgrade to Vista you had to buy the Ultimate version or do a fresh install.. but it looks like the fresh install is the only option for XP users this time.. DOH

One thing that does suck though is I just found out today that Microsoft had a preorder sale for $100 off the upgrade price so you could have gotten Home 7 for $49 and Pro 7 for $99 and it ended on July 11th.... NOOOOO!! how did I miss seeing this by 4 freaking days????:ohmy::cry:

I think my best option is to upgrade to Vista Ultimate for $175. It's cheaper than Windows 7 pro upgrade and it will let me do a inplace install. I hope there are'nt to many issues because Microsoft is giving free upgrades to Windows 7 for anyone who buys Vista now or a PC with Vista on it.. of course that deal started on June 26 about a month after we got our new laptop.. sigh.

The prices do seem quite reasonable to me. I would have expected $500 or something rediculous like that.

The full versions are a couple hundred more on average.

They did a pretty decent job with XP. As a marketting giant, I think even they know that another Vista wouldn't be good for sales or reputation.

But, there's only one way to really know for sure.

Lol I don't think that will be happening any time..ever. I think part of the reason for the big preorder sale was to give incentive to all the dumb asses who pirate their software to buy it cheap. Of all the software to use pirated versions of I think my OS would be the last on my list.

Given the fact I think about half of window uses are still XP users and Windows 7 was the top worldwide software sale on Amazon it looks like a lot of people are ready for the move. I think in this version they mainly took Vista and updated it while making it more reliable, you know toss what didn't work and boost the speed and performance. I doubt it will ever match XP in DX9 games but DX10 is a whole different beast and in all other things like load times and processing I believe Win7 will be king. :thumbsup2:

Hah plus I want my GPU to grab some DX10 and anything is better than Vista!

My copy of XP isn't pirated and it still was free. I know my XP key is said to cover all previous versions of windows. I wonder if it works for future releases as well :hmm:

Did you get a biz or school key? I know those are usually bought in large quantities.

If you buy a PC now they will upgrade ou to 7 for free when it comes out.

ALso there are more vesions, but it is like, Business, Business Pro, then Server etc...
also supposed to be a really good trimmed down version for netbooks which is a good idea. Full XP on my Netbook is kind of silly and takes up too much room on the SSHD.

There probably is more version like Hand says. The three versions I listed where the ones off the main Windows 7 site that will be their main sellers. I know if you buy Vista Biz now it upgrades to Windows Pro so I think that has replaced the common Biz version??

i hate vista i have to use it too which makes me so made. uuhhhgg!!!!!!!!!!

I hope when windows 7 comes out that it actually is better cuz if it isn't, i think i'll cry. :(
