This is my first in a series of xbox game reviews i plan on writing, enjoy:thumbsup2:
Need for speed undercover is going back a bit to try and revive NFS most wanted, easily one of the best in the series of arcade racers. Its places you in a fictional town as an undercover cop to investigate a terrorist smuggling ring that somehow is related to street racing. The starts out as you would expect with the series, a slow stock going up against painfully easy A.I in other slow stock cars. However after awhile you do begin to unlock cars. This is where the game begins to fall apart, buying cars is virtually useless as you literally get given them by your street racing colleagues. In an attempt to tie in with the surprisingly engaging storyline. You can steal cars, this basically involves driving a car to a location after losing the cops, while not letting your car take much damage however this seams rather pointless as the car usually turns up in a twisted heap anyway. The A.I can be painfully easy, punishingly hard or dead on, unfortunately the game can never quite decide which one of these it wants to be, for example after a cut scene you'll find your self in a rather mediocre car racing against Lamborghini's and corvette's.
The pursuits are similar they start out easy until they get to a point of almost impossible escape as for some profound reason the cops seem to know that they HAVE to jump off a bridge with their car because they somehow saw you underneath it. Graphically this game is rather stunning, the light textures are wonderful and the car details highly realistic from wheel tred to car badges. However when you go into a tunnel or under a bridge the screen turns incredibly dark leaving you to navigate through them using your taillights as the only visible point on your car. races are as you would expect, they're fun an engaging with an obscene amount of 16 cars for an illegal street race. Other race types include, highway battle where you are racing against a single opponent and must navigate your way through incredible amounts of traffic while staying ahead of your competitor. Also you have your classic checkpoint, sprint, circuit and so on a so forth. It is during these races that the game takes a turn for the worse, glitches plague this game far too often, invisible walls, points where your car randomly fly's upward, your cars will go missing from your garage for no reason even the occasional fall through the map or building. These usually cost you to lose a race instantly due to the fact that once an opponent passes you there is little or no chance of you catching up to them. Multilayer is as you would expect, basic race mode and the all new cops and robbers mode where there is a team of cops and team of robbers and the robbers must steal money and drop it of while the cops pursue them.
Overall this was a fun game a times with a solid story, however the glitching, difficulty, A.I and lack of multilayer features really let this game down, sorry EA but you you had so much potential to make this game really good but you blew it. i give it a 6/10
