Before Zombie and Scorp told me about the add-ons you can get for WoW I was lost running around looking for quests.
The only add-on system I use to run my add-ons is from the Curse Client.
http://www.curse.com/client/
To add a new addon you can either click the "install with curse client" button from the specific addon pages on the curse website or you can type the name of the addon in the search window inside the curse clients "get more addons" window.
From their download site you can use the Curse Client to automatically install any add-ons for you. These are completely legal for the game.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/default.aspx
Don't feel you have to install all of the addons I use. Many of them are use specific and complicated to setup. You can always add more later.
Feel free to mention any add-ons you might use or like. There are tons of cool ones out there and if you make a post I'll add them to my list!
I'm glad WoW added vendor sell price onto all loot items.. I hated the auctioneer addon with a passion..
There are many PVP or RAID based addons not listed here since our Guild isn't quite active enough to get into that right now. Though if some of you like to group up with other people online to do those things then ask them about the important addons and let us know any you like.
There are also many addons to make your bars and windows "pretty" lol but I'm not currently using any.
The ones I use are: (Updated 2/22/2011)
Questhelper (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/quest-helper.aspx) It keeps track of your quests for you and shows you where items or people are located on your map. Blizzard does have built in quest helping now so it's really a choice on if you want something a little more detailed or more lightweight?
Minimap Button Frame (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/minimap-button-frame.aspx) This is nice since it take all of the buttons around your minimap and puts them into a frame you can place anywhere. If you have lots of addons they start overlapping each other so it's better to just take them off the map.
Mapster (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/mapster.aspx) This is a map addon that customizes you main map and to make it movable and adds quest info the zone your in under the map.
Bartender4 (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/bartender4.aspx) This lets you organize all of your action bars how you want to with size and locations. I like having all my attacks right in the bottom middle of my screen without having to scroll like the stock one.
Deadly Boss Mods (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/deadly-boss-mods.aspx) If you plan on doing any Raiding or Heroic dungeons you will need this addon. I will tell warn you when important things are happening like certain spells are being cast from a boss so you need to disrupt it or that a slime or spell is cast on you and you need to move away from the group etc.
If you are doing older non-Cata based Raids or Dungeons you will need the DBM mod for that called Deadly Boss Mods - WotLK, BC and Vanilla mods. (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/dbm-bc.aspx)
OmniCC (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/omni-cc.aspx) "OmniCC is an addon that adds text to items/spells/abilities that are on cooldown to indicate when they’ll be ready for use" I find it handy to have a number countdown on my icons.
Atlasloot Enhanced (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/atlasloot-enhanced.aspx) This addon will show you all of the gear/items that drop in dungeons, raids, crafting or from rep. It's very handy.
Quest Completist (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/quest_completist.aspx) This addon pops up a window that shows you all of the available quests in the area you are in and which ones you have and haven't done.
RangeDisplay (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/range-display.aspx) This will show range/distance numbers from you to your target or other group members. It's sometimes necessary to be spread out to minimize AOE damage.
Decursive (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/decursive.aspx) If you have the ability to remove spells, curses, diseases or poisons this addon will show you bars with your groups names in them and let you one click their names to remove anything. Very handy and almost a must for those classes.
Quartz (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/quartz.aspx) This replaces your stock casting bars with new ones that you can custom size and move. If you you an addon like Bartender and you icons are starting to get in the way of your stock casting bar then this will help.
_NPCScan (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/npcscan.aspx) This addon warns you when a rare elite npc or animal is in the area. Handy for hunters or achievements.
MikScrollingBattleText (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/mik-scrolling-battle-text.aspx) This addon adds text that floats on all 4 sides of you showing damage and heals going in or out and notifications of cooldowns etc.
Chinchilla Minimap (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/chinchilla.aspx) This addon replaced your small minimap with a custom one you can change the look of or move. I also got it since it lets me move the stock quest list that is under the minimap. Many people also like a similar minimap addon called SexyMap (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/sexymap.aspx)
Auctionator (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/auctionator.aspx) This addon expands on the stock Auction House window. It gave me a more custom window and settings that I like. Auctioneer (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/auctioneer.aspx) is more popular but I never liked how drastically it changed the looks of the stock Auction House.
Addon Control Panel (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/acp.aspx) This is a must have. It will let you disable you addons from your control panel without having to exit out to the login screen.
TellMeWhen (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/tellmewhen.aspx) This addon give you custom icon boxes that you can make show when certain buffs, debuffs or abilities are active without having to look up at the dozen small icons up near your map. I have mine setup right over my characters head and set to let me know when certain buffs become active so I know it's the right time to cast certain spells that will benefit from that buff.
Postal (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/postal.aspx) Another necessary addon. This replaces the stock mail window with one that is 100% better. It lets you open all your mail at once and remove the items in them then deletes them. It also tracks mail and has a bunch of other handy features. BIG time saver!
BadBoy: Anti Spam Automatic Reporter (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/bad-boy.aspx) Tired of seeing all that trade chat spam from gold sellers? Download this addon.
Omen Threat Meter (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/omen-threat-meter.aspx) This addon is a must also. It keeps track of the agro of all the members in your group and helps you to stop pulling agro off of the Tank!
Recount (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/recount.aspx) A damage/healing meter for you and your group. Good way to keep track of your DPS(damage per second) so you can test out different gear or talents for damage.
RatingBuster (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/rating-buster.aspx) Compare stat changes of armor or weapons compared to ones currently equipped. (WoW no does this in Auction house items but you still need RatingBuster for the field)
Altoholic (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/altoholic.aspx) Ok this one is cool. It allows you to check info on all your other characters(alts) without having to log out of who your playing and log into them. It will show you all your characters: money, xp, talents, glyphs, skills, rep, bag contents, equipment, guild bank, mail!! *Some* of these even work cross realm if you have characters on different realms
GearScore (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/gearscore.aspx) Look at the combined level score of the gear you or someone else have equipped.
Other members also use:
LootFilter (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/loot-filter.aspx) If you like to auto loot(setting so when you click on a kill all of its items go right into your bag vs clicking each item) then this addon is for you. You train it to blacklist junk(grey) items that you don't need so that it will either delete them right away, left of the body.
X-Perl UnitFrames (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/xperl.aspx) Replacement for Blizzard's default unit frames, including raid frames and raid tools. If you do a lot of group Raids this can help, if not don't bother.
Misc addons I have yet to try but I'm thinking about:
Bagnon (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/bagnon.aspx) addon takes all of your bag contents and have them open in one popup with multiple features. Sounds interesting.
WIM (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/wim-3.aspx) A Instant Messenger addon for ingame WoW. Looks neat but we tend to use Vent a lot with out groups so..
Overachiever (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/overachiever.aspx) If you're really into gaining achievements this addon improves and adds to the WoW achievements tab features. Buzzard I think this one is for you lol.
My main character is a Priest and you may notice I didn't list any healer addons. Not to many people enjoy playing healing classes but if you do feel free to ask me about which healing addons I think you might like to try. Macro healing sucks and addon healing is pretty much a must if you plan to do it with any success.
The only add-on system I use to run my add-ons is from the Curse Client.
