Quite often when playing WoW I find I have to Alt-Tab out of the game to look online to find some info about a quest or item. I heard most of these mentions often from the guys here who have been playing for some time but it's a useful list for us new to the game.
There are tons of database sites online but these sites seem to be the best places to find information.
Stay away from any sites that talk about GOLD! If you pay real cash for ingame and Blizzard finds out they WILL BAN YOU. Plus it's just kinda dushy.

This site is the main database owned and run by Blizzard. It is where all the game items are listed and where most of the sites below pull their databases from. While all the armor and weapons are listed there it's best to search those things in wowhead or one of the other sites that has more item info and member comments. The armory's use to us is mainly to looks at your characters stats or guild/realm info online. To save on wasted space they do not list any characters below level 10.

I like to use thottbot for item information when I don't us WoWHead.

alakhazam is pretty much the same as thottbot but it also keeps tract of the prices items are selling for at the auction houses. Of course this is different depending on your realm and how flooded or bare the market might be of that item. Check out my Curse Addon thread to find an ingame allakhazam auction price addon.
