Easy way to avoid Hordes in L4D

OK well there are a few little ways to avoid Hordes in L4D, like where you are supposed to light the wooden fence on fire to get through, and you jump on the grey boxes to the left and use them to jump over unscathed.

Please note that I have run back to safe rooms before during Tank attacks, and the tanks has knocked down the door, i do not know if they just got lucky, or they just kept him back with the barrage from the 2 auto shotties.

The same has happened to me Hand, so I'm not sure how it worked both times for them, but I believe if you stand directly by the door, like touching the door, he can't knock it down. I'm not sure why, but I have seen that work in a random game I was in.
