Alright I got to play about an hours worth of L4D last night at launch.
Coop Mode
I played a quick part of th campaign section first. I played the No Mercy Chapter (The demo is the first part of this chapter) online coop with some random ppl, and it is basically everything the demo is, only longer (Read: AWESOME!!) Of COURSE as soon as we got into the subway a Tank showed up way earlier than I have ever seen and we had to kid its ass. But since you played the demo, you basically know what to expect here.
Versus Mode
This is a sweet cake of funness right here. A warning pops up saying that you should really play the campaign mode of a chapter before you play the versus in that chapter and I agree. That way you can really enjoy the story, and it will help you play this mode better.
The first Zombie I started as was a FREAKING TANK, which was great running around the cornere and just whaling on the other team, getting them stuck in a corner and beating on them. You can not pick which kind of Zombie you are going to be, and I am not sure if it is random or done on how you are playing, but since I started as a Tank I assume it is just random.
You start in a ghost mode around the survivors. You have to float to an area where you want to spawn which is out of site of them. Once you do, you can either charge them, or lay in what in a nice corner and wait for them to walk by and grab their tail man. You always see the survivors through walls as an auora, so you know how to plan your attack.
One time a witch was posted at the top of some stairs (as far as I know you can not be a witch because they are stationary hazards) and the guys "Could" get by her quick enough without setting her off, so I waited till the got close and jumped between them and the witch and pounced ont he front guy causeing the rest to shoot me and past me at the witch causing her to freak out and attack them. I was very proud of myself for setting that up.
Being a boomer is also fun, once I spawned in a storage roomwith a closed door, they were in a hurry and ran by without opening it, so i smacshed the door open (You cant open doors, you have to break them down) and while they were posting around a corner, I ran around and puked on all of them calling in a horde which I got points for all damage given to each one of them by that horde. Another time I just waited for them to get close and ran between them knowing that at least one wouldnt just try pusing me back and I was right, one guy just shot me, causing me to explode and cover all of them calling in the horde and blinding them all.
As the survivors it is a LOT like the regular coop, but you know the bosses are even tougher and are more unpredictable. and to keep it interesting you keep switching teams after each round so you can pay back thatonce bastard to trounced you when he was the tank.
Much much fun. Now I know some of you are all about the Liche King now, and I am not in any way to judge about which game is better by any means, but I DO hope that once you level up whomever and raid where ever enough, that you will get L4D, It can really be fun trash talking a group you just puked on or making fun of that guy you know runs lone wolf ahead when your a smoker and are strangling him to death with you tounge cuz he ran too far ahead and has no one to help him.
I am still in the "This game is so fun and new" phase, So I am not able to comment for sure on the replayability as of now, but I do know a bunch of use have played the demo for more times that we can count in the past 2 weeks and that is still not boring, let alone the 3 chapters I have not even touched on you. AND knowing how Valve loves us I am very sure that free chapters will be down the line PLUS anyone can make their own maps as we have seen by imported maps from TF2 and CSS already, so I can assume the replayability will be long lasting.
