View Full Version : Teamwork vs. Solo.

Our two big games on ||§§|| right now are Call of Duty 4 and Counter Strike Source.
While these are both shooters they are very different in what tactics are best used in them.

My current curiosity is are you mainly:

1) A Teamwork player that prefers to go slow and strong with your teammates, crouching, communicating and pushing the other team into a hole.

2) A Solo player that prefers to move fast and sweep in to kill as many as you can.

I know there is a lot of things that your style can depend on. If your playing Team Deathmatch vs. Sabotage vs. Capture the Flag etc.

My thoughts

My style tends to follow the Solo style, lol I'm not always proud of this but my teamwork experience is limited to SWAT4 which requires it and Team Fortress 2 which is sort of but not necessary Teamwork based but has really good voice communications for an online PC game.

I did try CSS for the first time last week with a couple ||§§|| guys and man I was slaughtered . We were all going slow and steady which seemed to work but as soon as I tried to go fast(fast is a bit slow in CSS) I was killed real easy lol. I think some of this was due to my lack of experience with the game and my dependence on Hardcore vs. Arcade and the need for less bullets to kill someone.

I wouldn't mind practicing some teamwork but when the open game is running and everything is going crazy I tend to easily slip back into run n gun .
While a really high personal score is great I do know that if we were to ever compete, personal scores mean little because going off and killing tends to leave your other teammates in the open and while the weaker members are getting killed it's bringing the other teams score up so total score should be higher if the top players scores went down and all other scores went up as deaths went down.. :hmm:I think?

A good team can utilize all players traits, like if one person is good at sneaking around and killing snipers in the back, Hint H. It is just that we all need to communicate and use each other. Say "I'm on your 6 Buzz" or "Scorp, I'll clear right, you go left" or even, ""Spy, cover that window while me and Zombie head to that building". Team work is not hard as long as we all keep talking and learn how we play.

Things like slicing doors by moving from one side to the other to get a good view of who is inside (Slicing the Pie) and learning that the guy on the right side should clear left and left side should clear right are good tactics that we could really learn to use. We ned to KNOW that when entering a room with another teamate that we are not going to get shot in the back, because the other guy is watching that direction and LITERALLY has your back.

One thing we do not have on CoD4 for a good team is a good sniper. If we had 1 or 2 snipers that could also call out everything they see in an efficient manner to let the whole team know what is going on, we could even be better.

I realy like it when I get good intel from a teamate like "their is a guy up the stairs sniping out of the Deli" and then can either get a good kill through a wall or a nice knife because now I don't have to worry about clearing, I know who is in there and where they are.

Intel is very important and I think that if we learned to speak more and listen, we could get really good at it and really develop as a team.

Good points ;)! We really do need to do our homework and read those maps.. Then figure out people jobs for each map and make sure they have set-up for each map.
And if I can still use my style and just be guided by the team I'm all for that ;).

Theres a me! but im not in the team :(

undoubtedly u guys will need to know the maps for CSS. As for solo rushing... it may work on normal public servers but thats only because the opposite team is doing the same thing 75% of the time. Oh and lets not forget those nbs who prefer to awp or rush with the skill of a 1 leged dog at a race track slugging their hearts away with no concern to friend or foe!! "every man for himself" may not be such a safe thing to do unless your confident u outplay the opposition on your own?

The beautiful thing is that clan matches will allow ppl to work as teams or something resembling a team if they so wish.

oh and how much does a polar bear weigh??

i preffer solo coz the most team mates just dont play as team and play solo so its impossible to have a good game.

I assume if we were all on vent then teamwork is the way to go but even then you should always have 1 or 2 ppl that aren't tied down to what the team is doing or a certain path.

As for me, since I only play DM or TDM on CoD4 (and no one talks on there) team work is impossible and usually pointless unless the other players are somewhat average in skill. So I enjoy the freedom of solo style playing but I really don't have a choice lol

I went for solo just because when Im on the rest of you guys aren't :(
Bloody time zones

Anyway, another reason I'd rather go solo is because you could garantee one arse in your team wouldnt have UAV Jammer then the other team would be able to find that one player, throw a grenade in their direction and blow up my team and me.

And [ stealth + team = fail ]

Stealth + Crappy group pretending to be a team = Fail
Stealth + Stealthy group knowing what they are doing = So many kills that people complain and leave the server

It's not teamwork if you suck at it.
