As a high number of people know by now, the first DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 "The Passing" is about to launch in just 2 hours from now, set for release at 2am Pacific time, according to Valve employees, who you will be able to join and fight alongside to for a few hours after release according to the L4D official blog:

"To celebrate the launch of "The Passing" DLC this Thursday Valve employees will be playing on the PC between 11am-5pm PDT and then on the 360 from 7pm-11pm PDT using special accounts. To play with someone from Valve just friend one of the following:

On PC:

L4D2_DEV_1, L4D2_DEV_2, L4D2_DEV_3, L4D2_DEV_4, L4D2_DEV_5, L4D2_DEV_6, L4D2_DEV_7, L4D2_DEV8, L4D2_DEV_9, L4D2_DEV_10

On the Xbox 360:

L4D2 DEV 1, L4D2 DEV 2, L4D2 DEV 3, L4D2 DEV 4, L4D2 DEV 5, L4D2 DEV 6, L4D2 DEV 7, L4D2 DEV 8, L4D2 DEV 9, L4D2 DEV 10"

The Passing is the self-proclaimed "most important campaign in L4D/2 history", its setting being a rural town in Georgia, covering the obvious gap between Dead Center and Dark Carnival. It is a 3-map campaign, though do not let that number fool you, might just be the length of a 5-map one! So save your whining until later.

*It costs 560 MS points for Xbox, free for PC*

On the PC it will arrive as a form of an update, with numerous other fixes, as well as reportedly an anticipated patch to the infamous "Jesus spot" in the Dark Carnival stadium finale, though we will know for sure when the update is actually released. We also receive a brand new melee weapon, the golf club (if someone quotes this as a typo and says "gulf clob", I'll murder a water buffalo!!), and the formidable M60, a tank's worst nightmare and Ellis' long lost one & only soulmate. They both are, after all, super duper zombie-wrecking machines!

That looks dignified, don't it?

The DLC also debutes 2 brand new gamemodes, one of which is called "Mutations". It's week-long variations of gamemodes, some from your worst and most rocking nightmares, and are mode-specific. The first confirmed mutation will be "Realism-Versus", which will obviously be only playable in Versus.
Versus, but with the Realism downsides working against you. No glows around items or survivors, much tougher zombies and insta-kill witches. Heh watch out for ninja-jockeys, the AI is out the window with this one, and you'll most certainly encounter the most evil-steered humpers out there. Not having a mic will certainly put you in a distinct disadvantage, so proceed with caution and God speed.

Another upcoming mutation is labelled as "Chainsaw Massacre", which will provide the survivors with unlimited-gas chainsaws in Campaign mode. Uh oh, die my darlings!!! DIE DIE DIE! Get used to that, and you might wanna lose the earphones during this one.

I'm certain there are many more surprises in store, though the most anticipated feature of the Passing certainly is that you will encounter 3 of the original Left 4 Dead survivors, who will aid you significantly, particularly in the finale. Yes, I said 3, which means we will say goodbye to 1 unlucky fella, who has reportedly already perished at the hands of the horde.
The loss in the Passing is reported to be random, so I'm assuming each time you start the campaign, one of the L4D1 survivors will be missing at random, though the death will most certainly be decided in an upcoming DLC for the first game, which explains exactly how on earth the originally North-located survivors ended up due south. That new DLC was originally said to be released one or so month after the Passing, though there has been no new info released on it since the Passing's delay of late March.

And on a sidenote, just because they are all survivors, doesn't mean they will like each other too much, even the least obvious ones! Here's the official intro video of the Passing, which proves my point.

Alongside the L4D1 DLC there will also be a comic of some sorts, which sheds more light in the post-Blood Harvest activities of the original survivors. It is said that the final chapter of the story will also be playable in the upcoming DLC, though I'm not entirely sure what that means. Could either be that the comic will be missing the final chapter, and you'll instead get to play it in-game, or it will have the complete story, and you will play the final chapter anyway, as well as read it whenever you want. One thing is certain, however, and that is the death in the comic, as well as the DLC, will most certainly be fixed.
Speculation on the fixed death has been rampant in the official L4D2 forum, though I will not get into that further, as it does my head in.

I believe that pretty much covers it for now! As of right now it's almost 12am for our friends on the Pacific coast, so we're 2 hours away from launch. For a bit there I thought it would be best to post this AFTER release, in case there's a small delay. Wouldn't want to get my head bitten off here, but what the hell, I'll just publish this thing now anyway. Who will be in the mood for reading later anyway, everyone will be playing the Passing!

So pop a 40's and check your rollies, it's crunch tyme!!!

UPDATE 1: The Passing is now officially out on XBOX, PC'ers not so lucky, currently raging out of their mind. Looks like we'll have to wait till the morning of Pacific April 22nd. Valve Devs will be active from 11am, so I guess that means PC will get it shortly before that. Go to bed nightowls.

UPDATE 2: According to Xbox'ers, there is apparently NO second new gamemode. "Mutations" is all we get. Oooh this is like throwing oil on an already raging fire.

Well the update pretty much fucked all Modded Servers... So imma open up a BC2 Server :)... SO FUCK YOU VALVE YOU NASTY PIECE OF SHIT WHORE!

Ok since I never picked up L4D2 I have a couple questions because as far as gaming companies go Valve is one of the only companies that is still supportive of the PC market.

From the looks of your quote it seemed all positive things for the game and the only possible downside being they skipped on the second new gameplay feature. Is it confirmed that the same thing happened for the PC? As far as game lies go Valve is WAAAAAAY behind Activition and Infinity Ward on that list.

So it looks like the only thing that really went wrong was some sort of problem with modded servers? You didn't tell us what the problem was. Was it that they removed mod ability because that doesn't sound like something Valve would do? Or is it because of code changes with the new update people have to update or redo the code in their mod servers?

Valve is probably my favorite gaming company so I'd like to know what they did to piss people off so much.

We have to re-mod the servers to fit the new coding... Hopefully it only needs new MetaMod and SourceMod updates to the servers to fix them but i am still going to try and get a BC2 Server and little by little get out of L4D2 but it will be hard with most of the Steam Members being L4D2 Fans... I personally have fell in love with BC2 so it might happen.

The new updates to the game are awesome but Valve needs to be careful and maybe find a work around from Modded Servers since there are soooo many out there.

(Hint Hint sBf in my words are going to shit :) No site, just lost another server.... Things aren't looking good for meh)
