Ok Battlefield Bad Company 2 just came out and while it's not BF3 it may be the only and best competition for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
I wanted everyone to discuss what they feel are the pros and cons of each game.
I don't have any experience with the BF series so what I've seen so far in from videos.
These are both modern day shooters but very different at the same time.
MW2 has had all sorts of problems with the game from Peer-to-Peer connections instead of dedicated servers to problems with glitches, weapons and no way to stop hackers.
MW2 PC is basically the XBOX 360 with some slight changes to make it runnable in windows.
MW2 You get a bunch of perks to unlock and kill streaks where you can call in or control attack vehicles.
MW2 the maps are ok but very static.
MW2 if IW actually cared to even consider fixing this game it would be freaking awesome but right now I say it barely matches CoD4 in how fun it is. Being able to keep our team together is the only thing that makes me still play it.
BC2 seems to be much more team based. You can have dedicated servers but you have to rent them from the game company instead of a separate company or running your own machine.
BC2 there are tons of vehicles for your team to use. I'm not sure how you get them or if there is any way to balance things so one team doesn't destroy the other team. This is my main concern with the game.
BC2 graphics are maybe a tad behind MW2 in my opinion but I think the engine is much better vs the ductaped CoD4 engine MW2 uses.
BC2 has an interactive environment where you can pretty much blow up, shoot down, break and destroy anything in the map! This is bad ass and I like it. Toss a tube shot at a support pillar of a broken up building and bring it down on whoever is inside lol SWEET!!
I'd actually like to get into BC2 and test out all the weapons at some time.
I also wonder if you rented a server do they let you mod it? Can you turn off most of the vehicles to make it a soldier based game?
What do you guys think?

I've only played BF1942 and its DC mod VS computers. I have no idea what the games are like in a multiplayer setting. I know Postal had BF2 and he didn't care much for it. I have also heard storys about in BF2 where if you were not in the air you were as good as dead.
I also watched some BC2 game-play video and the sniping looked weird, all of the sniper targets basically had red arrows pointing at them, telling the sniper where to shoot
I still like MW2s "in the grit of combat" feel where it's you on the ground fighting for your life. Tanks ruined W@W so I have no idea how BC2 will play out... and why do people keep saying BC2 is no BF3? what is/will be the difference?

Bad company 2 is alot more team based but you can solo and there are a limited number of vehicles. I just got done playing it the last few hours and the graphics are similar to what you would see on Crysis. Very intense and minimum video card they recommend is the ATI 4870 which I have. It works on lower cards like the ATI 1670 but I have graphics all the way up and with dx10. Buildings are destroyable as well as all the environment. Buildings if hit enough with tanks or artillery or if you plant enough c4 inside it will come down. The sound has settings for everything from headphones to home theater to hifi. They also have war tapes sound setting which is intense with surround sound. There are snow, jungle, water, and desert maps. There are ranked and unranked servers. The more you play different specs the more things you unlock. Snipers can call mortar strikes, engineers not only repair but also can unlock laser guided missles and anti air stingers.
In multiplayer, the in game character voices like when you kill something is funny but cool. Example..I killed a guy attacking me and his toon said,"yeah I got that mother fucker!" I was spotted in a tower sniping and the enemy below was saying ,"spotted a mother fucker up top",lol. I threw a grnade inside a house where guys were camping and I heard them saying,"Holy shit, grenade!" The joystick needs tweaking and im sure they will patch it because they have an issue with the yaw being reversed. There are 10 mp maps but they are big.
You can check out videos and screenshots here..The second video that has a snapshot of the sniper is from ther multiplayer maps.

Destructable environment and this game is best on the PC for the console owners. I thought it was just a port from console and I played the beta since it came out for pc. There are more stationary and infantry requirements in game so you wont be overpowered with air. You may get one heli, one or two tanks, atv's,a van with top mount gun or hummer. otherwise you are on foot. Vehicles can be taken out quick if you play it right with team work. For instance you can equip a taser pistol which silently fires a magnetic charge onto a vehicle. The friendly units see a flashing beacon on it and any team member can fire an at rocket and it will home in on the beacon. You also get to control a remote UAV which is like a small remote control helicopter that lets you fly it around and fire a missle one at a time to the ground wherever you place the crosshairs. That too can be taken out with 2 shots from a sniper rifle. I have done it. So its not overpowering.
The classes are assault, medic, engineer, and sniper. speaking of taking out vehicles. Another thing that will take out the tanks quick is the landmines and c4. one mine will cripple it to 50% or more. If you lay two or more mines near each other they all sync together and if a vehicle goes near it they all go off causing more damage.
snipers also get motion sensors that look like christmas ball ornaments. Throw them out around you and if someone comes near one it notifies you.

I'm still interested in why I've read so much about people wishing BC2 was BF3. Is there a specific difference in the two types of Battlefield games?

BF3 is supposed to be like 2 with more vehicles and big maps but with the graphics and gameplay of Bad Company 2. I think BC2 was originally for console but since they are still working on BF3, this was a teaser. This game I think has more teamwork and it has a campaign mode with a storyline for singleplayer like call of duty.

So the difference is Bad Company was originally for consoles only and it has a story mode. Did Battlefield 2 not have a story mode?

No not really. Bad Company has a campaign like call of duty.

Bad Company was made to be the Battlefield of the consoles. HOPEFULLY BC2 PC edition with give PC gamers more leeway than MW2 has given up.

A lot of game play videos here http://badcompany2.ea.com/videos
even have them boasting their PC version
-100 points for having an XM8
If BC2 is supposed to be the filler before BF3 I'm more likely to wait for BF3, the combat does look pretty intense and realistic. Maybe I should borrow BF2 from kith and give it a whirl first

I play BF2.. You just got to find the right server to play on. Most are really pointless to play on. Like y'all say if your not in the air your dead and that's completely true. If you play on one with no vehicles then its nade spam but that only really happens on Strike At Karkand when you first start. But anyway, I mostly play the mods like Project Reality and Allied Intent Xtendedbecause most players on those play by the rules and don't spam and spam with planes and such the whole fucking game because they respect it... I guess. But Yea I'm waiting for BF3 to surface. I might get BC2 but it depends... AVP is out and i want my hands on it.

I own BF2, tried to play it for a month or so and never got used to it. I hated several things about it. People would hop go prone in the air (animation would actually show them floating in the air on their bellies). Limited weapon selection as well customization options. Explosive weapons did a lot of damage. Huge maps make for easy camping. I hate vehicles. Weapons didn't have a satisfying feel to them as I fired and hit targets. Low amount of killing - lots of traveling.
My main complaint it just doesn't feel good taking people out. It's hard to describe but the feedback isn't the same. Guns seem weak. Graphics in this new BF are better than MW2 but the character (chunky bodies, weird gear) and weapon models lack detail in comparison.
On the plus side....
I do like big maps which is why I like most of the maps in MW2 over MW1. Vehicles could be cool if they were utilized correctly. I've never seen a whole squad of guys correctly load up into a black hawk, land some where, and deploy effectively. A lot of the cheesy things in COD will be absent, akimbo, knifers, unlimited 203s, the list goes on.
I like the COD MW series for the balance between run and gun and arcade shooting even though this latest iteration seems to be leaning towards the wacky side. I like the customizable options like having classes and weapon attachments. The perks make it so players can have different styles and strategies.
This flexibility seems to be lacking in BF. Of course, this is BF2 I'm talking about and maybe if I understood the game more I'd have better things to say about it. I've been playing COD since the first one came out on PC so its hard for me to get into other shooters.

Weapons didn't have a satisfying feel to them as I fired and hit targets. Low amount of killing - lots of traveling.
When ever Postal, Kith and I played the Desert Combat mod for BF1942 we always played it with 2 - 1 ratio of bots on the enemy team so there was always a lot of stupid soldiers to kill, the bots also were not very well programed so they wouldn't even shoot back a lot of the time.... We would also get a few random people join our servers and were usually asses, they would join the all bot team and sneak around behind our lines and capture points.
If BFBC2 has a demo I will certainly give it a try but I will not invest any money in it.
I watched a video about "how to not be a noob in BC2" it talked about needing your team, and you will still lose if only one person does good. and that to me looks bad, because I am that ONE person that does good a lot of the time and that kind of game play really sucks if I cannot at least attempt to carry my team to victory.

You could write a research paper on game design regarding that topic. How much should the abilities of one player effect the overall game play experience in a multiplayer environment?
One of the flaws of Left4Dead was having to wait for your teammates to free you when trapped by a special zombie. No matter how good you are you can be killed if your teem mates are too busy, unattentive, or just feel like being assholes.
Some sort of team work should be involved in team-based games even non-objective based ones. At the same time you can't have a player invest time in a game, become good at it, and then have that investment wasted by having the player rely on strangers.
I think why CoD is so popular is because it's main game type is TDM and TDM strike a great balance between relying on your team and playing well as an individual.

I have to disagree with ya on this one, I don't believe that. Too many times have I gone into a MW2 game, with me and maybe one other person doing fantastic, while the rest of the squad just ran about and got in the way and we still won.
BF2 relied a lot, sometimes too much, on team work but even still if you played like you did in MW2, you'll win most of the times.
I am hoping with this new game, it won't be like that and I feel like I really want to buy it, but after playing the multiplayer beta on Xbox, I didn't care too much for it.
One problem that most people talked about in BF2, was the over powered tanks that would roll and camp near points you needed to take over, and if you weren't in a tank or in the bushes with a rocket launcher, you were dead and respawning over and over.
So I guess we will see.

One fun thing to do playing Desert Combat VS bots was to park your tank on a repair bay and sit there all day raping bots as they spawned
